Employee Benefits Summary

Would you like to know what benefits you are eligible for? The Human Resources Department has created the table below to do just that. Here you can view what benefits a full-time employee is eligible for, what they receive and when they are eligible. If you have any questions regarding the information posted here please contact the Human Resources Department.

Use the links below to find more details on the benefits information you are interested in. All benefits listed are for full-time employment.  Some benefits may be pro-rated for part-time employment.

Eligibility

Holidays

Employees receive 11 paid holidays as follows:

  • New Year’s Day,
  • Martin Luther King Day,
  • President’s Day,
  • Memorial Day,
  • Independence Day,
  • Labor Day,
  • Nevada Day,
  • Veteran’s Day,
  • Thanksgiving Day,
  • Day after Thanksgiving,
  • Christmas Day.

Vacation

  • Hire date through first year 1 week (3.34 hrs. /month), 20 hours available after 6 months of employment.
  • Beginning of 2nd through end of 5th year 3 weeks (10.00 hrs. /month).
  • Beginning of 6th year 4.2 weeks (14.00 hrs. /month).
  • 240 hours per year maximum vacation leave carryover allowed.

Sick Leave

Employee is eligible to receive 15 paid sick days per year accrued at 10 hours per month.

Tuition Reimbursement

Up to 100% reimbursement of tuition expenses.  Must be approved by department director and funded by department’s training budget, related to current job, and student must receive passing grade of C or better.

Attendance Incentive Program

Use of 16 hours or less of sick leave per calendar year will result in crediting of one day of Personal Leave time.  Personal Day must be used by the end of the calendar year or lost.

Health, Prescription, Dental and Vision Insurance Coverage

Choice between three (3) health plans. There are a $500 Deductible PPO plan, a $1000 Deductible PPO plan and an HMO Plan option. Employee cost for all plans is paid by the County.  Family coverage is available for a per pay check cost.  Click on this link for the cost.  Each plan has office co-pays for in network physicians.

Flexible Spending Benefits

The County offers a section 125 Flexible Spending Plan consisting of options for employees to set up pre-tax payroll deductions for Un-reimbursed Medical Expenses and Dependent Care expenses.

Life Insurance

Term policy in the amount of $40,000.  (Sworn law enforcement personnel have an additional $50,000 in coverage.)

Supplemental Insurance

Employee may purchase additional life and accidental death insurance through lower group rates.  For contact information click here.

60 days

Short & Long Term Disability Insurance

Employees may purchase Short and Long Term Disability insurance equal to 66% of monthly salary through either ColonialConseco or AFLAC.

1st of month following date of employment

Retirement

County is a choice agency under theNevada Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).  Employees may choose to either pay one-half (10.50% of the retirement contributions) and receive a higher hourly rate of pay or have the County pay 100% of the retirement contributions and receive a lower hourly rate of pay.   Benefits are payable after 5 years of service.  If the employee pays one-half of the retirement premiums and does not remain employed for 5 years they are entitled to a refund of the premiums they paid.

Deferred Compensation

Tax deferred savings plans 457 (b) are available for retirement purposes. Employee pays full cost.  Options available are through Hartford and Life of the Southwest (LSW).

Early Separation Incentive Program

Employees who retire from employment early may be eligible for purchase of additional PERS retirement credit.  Contact Human Resources for additional details.

After 10 years of employment

Social Security

Social Security Retirement, Disability is not paid for employees who are covered by the PERS Retirement Plan.  M-Care Insurance premiums are paid for all employees.

Banking services including checking, savings and loans available thru Greater Nevada Credit Union  or Financial Horizons Credit Union.

Jury Duty

Paid leave for jury duty.

Bereavement Leave

Up to 5 days leave for death in immediate family or of an individual who was dependent upon the employee for care.

Catastrophic Leave Bank

Employees may be entitled to additional sick leave time for catastrophic illness or injury.  Contact Human Resources for additional details.

Free uniforms for those required to wear them or a set annual uniform allowance for sworn law enforcement personnel.
