The Lyon County Recorder has recently become aware that citizens are receiving letters or correspondence from business entities or individuals with a solicitation to procure a “certified copy” of the citizens’ deed to their property in Lyon County for a fee. While many of these business entities’ or individuals’ solicitations are legitimate, others have reportedly failed to send a deed after receipt of a requested fee.
Please be advised that Citizens can obtain a certified copy of their deed at a cost of $4.00 for certification and $1.00 for each page plus postage and handling.
The Lyon County Recorder recommends that if Citizens receive a solicitation which is suspicious, or in the abundance of caution, they should exercise due diligence in determining the validity of the sender and information being solicited. You may wish to determine the business entity or individual has a valid business license or contact the Better Business Bureau. Citizens may also wish to contact the Nevada Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection for more information concerning mail fraud scams.
